June 14th 2009 - Elo-Mall and Chris Carlone in Paris
Laments, lullabies, dark sides and hope.
Estonian poet Ellom reciting/chanting her words and New York musician Chris Carlone playing all the instruments he can find.
Mostly improvised performance to celebrate the brief days these two happen to be in Paris at the same time.
Based on the ten-poem-set that was performed at the opening of Marge Nelk's exhibition INLANDS in New York City April 2009.
This is going to be something very special. Be there and we'll set some minds on fire.

ELLOM
Ellom comes from Tartu, a little old university town in South-Estonia, by the river Emajõgi, or Mother River in translation.
As a poet heedless of distance and borders, she concentrates her efforts on collaborating with different musicians from different countries, to both record and do live performances. The styles range from acoustic and traditional instruments to electronic, but what matters most is the honesty, the vision and the effort put forth together to map the the inner soulscapes. There are dark places, and there is hope, and Ellom does not believe in denying either.
In her opinion poetry is not a dead academic exercise, it is alive and it is vitally necessary. So performances take place wherever people live – at least some kinds of people –, in cafés, bars, second-hand bookshops...
In 2008 Ellom has performed in her home town of Tartu, in the capital city of Tallinn, in Paris, London and Budapest. The year 2009 she will visit US East Coast in April to give concerts in Boston, New York and Woodstock, accompanied by a photo exhibition by Marge Kaplinski. An album of poetry and recordings is in the works, as are plans for various video projects.
Ellom’s work has been published in different magazines in Estonia and she has three published poetry collections. Her English book "The Pain in the Beautiful Answer" can be bought in several indie-bookstores in Europe, or online (see webpage for details).
Ellom is also an illustrator and creator of children’s books – inspired by (as always) myths, old ornaments, folktales and human warmth.
MAURO PANDOLFINO
Mauro Pandolfino is an Italian-born artist, currently residing in Berlin. He defines himself as a guitarist and composer, a researcher of the sound. His main focus of study is the interaction between the various aspects of music – acoustic, ethnic, psychedelic, jazz, punk, electronic etc – and of different forms of art and expression. Special attention is concentrated into understanding and feeling the emotional movements that these interactions cause in ourselves.
His live performances are characterised, among others, by electronic and acoustic influences, unconventional guitar techniques and improvised sets.
PREVIEW
A sample of Elloms and Mauro’s collaboration, a solemn confession titled "emptiness is such" is available for listening on Ellom’s MySpace music page.
